About this place
Gyudon is an easygoing combination of beef and onion in a sweet-savoury sauce, served over rice. At Sukiya Shijo, you can stick with a regular bowl or choose toppings such as green onion and egg, kimchi or 3 kinds of cheese. One diner praised the cheese-topped gyudon, a tempting choice when you want a richer take on the classic. For a fresher contrast, there is also gyudon with grated yam and wasabi, or with grated daikon and ponzu. The range makes it easy to decide whether you fancy the hearty bite of cheese or green onion, or the lighter pairing of yam or grated daikon and ponzu.
Breakfast choices range from simple combinations such as egg over rice and Maze-no-kke breakfast to meals with grilled salmon or grilled mackerel, and options with natto, fermented soybeans. There are choices for a lighter start as well as a more substantial rice-based meal. Lunch sets are also available, and the restaurant is suited to dining alone.
The Shijo branch is open from 4:00 until 3:00 the following morning. Alongside gyudon, the menu includes curry and a bowl of minced tuna, so there are options for different tastes and mealtimes.
